It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather Aaron Froese. Aaron passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, at Sherbrooke Community Centre, Saskatoon.
Aaron was born September 24, 1932, to Henry and Katharina (Guenter) Froese in the Chortitz area west of Hague. Being the eldest of 13 children, he learned the value of hard work and its rewards. As a teenager, Aaron worked for various famers around the province. In the fall of 1952, he went to Burns Lake, BC to work in a lumber camp. He was always interested in farming and when he came back the following spring, he was able to purchase his first piece of land located in the Dalmeny area.
Aaron met an attractive young lady at the Passchendaele School outdoor rink named Edith Wagner. Within a year of courtship, he knew she was the one for him and they were married October 16,1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hague. Three daughters were born to them - Valerie, Beverly and Cheryl. While in Saskatoon, they attended Augustana Lutheran Church where Aaron was baptized and became a member on February 7, 1954. Later, they became members of Zion Lutheran Churches in Hague and then in Saskatoon. He taught Sunday School, served on church council and sang in the choir. As well he served on a number of community boards and was always willing to help wherever he could.
Aaron and Edith spent the first 8 years of their married life in Saskatoon where he worked at Purity Dairy and drove taxi. In the spring of 1961, they had the opportunity to begin farming west of Hague, on Edith’s parents farm. They spent the next 33 years on the farm first operating a dairy along with grain farming, later focusing on expanding the grain farm. Aaron also enjoyed owning/operating trucks used in custom grain hauling. As well, they operated a gas station in Saskatoon for 10 years. Aaron referred to Edith as his “right hand man”. They were partners in every sense of the word. Aaron’s passion was farming-he especially loved the harvest season. With a fall birthday, he was happiest if he could spend it combining.
Aaron enjoyed fishing, camping, water skiing, golfing and hiking. He loved square dancing with Edith. They often travelled with friends and became snowbirds, making annual trips to Arizona for 25 years, where many new friendships were formed. In 2003, Aaron and Edith purchased a cabin at Emma Lake which became the family’s favourite place to spend time.
Aaron was slowed down with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in his later years, but he always asked what was happening on the farm and with the family. After a stroke in May of 2022, Aaron became a resident of Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, where he received wonderful care and was part of community life. He and the family were very thankful for Edith’s daily visits, as it was very difficult for him to not be living with her. Aaron and Edith were able to celebrate 71 years of marriage this past October. We are thankful for their dedication and commitment to God and each other through life’s journey.
Aaron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Edith, and daughters Valerie (Harvey) Wagner and Cheryl (Kevin) Fehr. Grandchildren Evan (Bree Price) Wagner; Janelle (Jason) Schenn; Landon (Kim) Fehr; Dustin (Joy) Fehr; Great grandchildren Edrea, Leo and Linus Wagner; Wyatt, Sydney and TJ Schenn; Jade, Myles and Logan Fehr, as well as 11 brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Katharina Froese, daughter Beverly Guenter and sister Erna Bueckert.
We are thankful for the blessing of a dedicated loving Christian father. So long dad – we love you! See you on the other side.
