Abe Harder was born November 10th, 1931, to John and Helena Harder, at Hepburn, SK., which is where he grew up and received his education at Hudson Bay School.
After finishing school, Abe started working in Saskatoon, SK, at Ashdown Hardware, Wells Construction, as well he had a part in building the hospital at Uranium City. He also went into mine work at Nickel Mine at Lynn Lake, MB., potash mines at Unity and Saskatoon. He also trained for a miller at the Sask Wheat Pool flour mill. His last 25 years in the workforce, was for Canada Post as a letter carrier.
He married Vi Janzen in July 1958, and they spent 57 years together.
Abe accepted the Lord as his Saviour in 1959, and joined the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as a board member, treasurer, and usher for many years.
After retiring, Abe and Vi enjoyed many years at their cottage at Little Loon Lake. His favorite pastime was watching the sunset across the lake. He and Vi also enjoyed a round of golf every day, as well as fishing.
Abe and Vi did a lot of travelling after their retirements, across Canada and the U.S.A., they travelled to Hawaii most winters, which was his favorite spot. They also enjoyed a trip to Austrailia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico, Yukon, Alaska, Northwest Territories, and as far north as Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk.
Abe also enjoyed reading his Bible, which he read through more than once a year. He also enjoyed many hours as a volunteer at the Red Cross, Friendship Inn, at curling events in Saskatoon, also at the Saskatoon Airport where he found it very interesting to meet people from around the world. He was always willing to help anybody that needed a hand.
Abe leaves to mourn, one sister Helen, one sister-in-law Marlene, brother and sisters in laws Norman and Vickie Friesen and Deena Janzen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Abe was predeceased by his wife Vi of 57 years, parents John and Helena Harder, sisters Mary (Bill) Stobbe, Sarah Wendland, brothers John (Mary) Harder, Carl (Mary) Harder. Fred, Jake (Doreen), Rueben, Pete (Mary) Harder, Harry (Katie), Ed Harder, brother-in-law Gilbert Janzen.
We would like to thank all of the Sisters and Staff at St. Joseph's Home for their wonderful care that they gave to Abe Harder.
Interment to be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., at Langham Cemetery.
Funeral Service will follow on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Martens Warman Funeral Home, 402 Central Street West, Warman, SK.
