It is with love and gratitude that we say our final goodbye to Allen Johnson Bibby, a dedicated and loving family man and friend, who passed away on January 13, 2023, at the age of 85.
He was the youngest of five children, born in Shellbrook, SK on August 19, 1937, to parents, John and Edna Bibby. Allen completed his high school in Shellbrook and then spent one year working at the dairy before moving to Saskatoon.
When in Saskatoon, Allen started training as an X-ray technologist and worked at the Royal University Hospital for 35 years, the last 12 years were spent as the Chief Technologist. He also met and married Edna Bibby (nee Banman) on October 5, 1962, who passed away in 1981. Allen remarried in 1987 to Sharon Hoffman.
Allen was involved in his community and church by volunteering on several committees and organizations. He also enjoyed other activities such as cooking, dancing, curling, golfing, traveling around the world, gardening, camping and acting in a several different theatres around Saskatoon. After retiring, one of his favourite activities was to play hockey in the 60+ league for which he was inducted into the 80+ Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. These activities helped to motivate him to keep fit but also gave him optimism and showed his love of life.
Allen was highly respected and admired for his involvement in the church and the wider community for his strong values such as fairness, integrity, kindness, humility, sincerity, patience, and charity. He was always willing to assist those in need or to share his time with them in order to enrich their lives and because of the value he placed on relationships. His family and friends will also miss his sense of humour and his willingness to explore and have fun.
He was predeceased by his parents, first wife, Edna, brother Robert and sisters Joan (infancy) and Edith.
Left to celebrate Allen’s life and cherish his memory are his children Richard (Jane) and Rhonda (Karl), brother Tom (Cip), wife Sharon and her three children Dorinda (JT), Kevin (Katarina) and Christy (Curtis). He was also a very special grandpa to seven grandchildren with whom he nurtured meaningful relationships. There are also many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
We, his immediate family, wish to extend our gratitude to the many family members and friends in their willingness to assist us in attending to dad’s needs, also to the Medical and Palliative Care teams for their professionalism and caring support throughout Allen’s cancer journey.
If you wish to make a donation in his memory, please consider giving to Prostate Cancer research or to The Salvation Army.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Mr. Bibby.
