It is with great sadness that the family of Andy Wist announce his passing following his years of dealing with cancer. Many knew him as the owner of Andy’s Drafting Services. He created plans for thousands of new homes and renovations including restaurants and even the Bessborough Hotel.
Andy had a typical Saskatchewan farm upbringing; riding horses, feeding cows, picking rocks, hauling manure, using an outhouse, and skipping school for seeding and harvest. He was very close to his mom and loved her amazing German cuisine especially the plachenda, homemade noodles and matrimonial cake. He played ball and had a book in his hands every chance he could. After furthering his education, he spent many decades as an excellent draftsman.
As a family man that loved nature, Andy took his wife, Delores, and his kids camping often. They also traveled, by van, to California and did a lot of sightseeing. Andy and Delores traveled to Aruba, Florida and Hawaii and enjoyed the nature and culture of each place. Any time spent with his grandkids was very special to him. Cards and games were ongoing activities. He had a substantial and eclectic library and a soft spot for all wildlife. You could often find him with a cup of coffee enjoying the numerous birds at his feeders. He even had a one-legged pigeon when he was a child. Andy and Delores had several dog companions, but Pixie was Andy’s favorite.
Andy loved classical music, coin collecting, fall and winter, meditating, science fiction, George Carlin, Bugs Bunny and WWE, especially Drew McIntyre. He also enjoyed good food. Some of his favorite foods were pasta dishes, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, halvah, pizza and pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream. He never turned down a game of Kaiser and was crowned ‘The Kaiser King’. He even had a lay down no trump hand a week before his passing.
In the Saskatchewan tradition Andy worked hard right to the end, building hundreds of bird houses and feeders in his retirement years for others to enjoy his feathered friends. Andy was a good man that loved life and wanted to squeeze more out of it. He passed away quickly surrounded by his family.
Andy leaves behind his loving wife Delores (62 years), son Kevin (Kelly), daughter Denise (Keith) and six grandchildren; Jaye (Meghan), Kyron (Jade), Tara (Kody), Heather, Kyle and Kory. He is survived by his sisters Beatrice, Carol, Imelda, Aquina (Bill), brother-in-law Leonard and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Andy was predeceased by his son Darren, parents Joseph and Anna, brothers Mike and Alex and sisters Victoria, Rose, Martina, Lavina and Elaine.
