It is with great sadness that the family of Larry Neufeld announces the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather on the 24th of June, 2024 at Royal University Hospital.
Dad was born into the (then) little town of Warman SK, to Jacob and Helen Neufeld, where he was greeted by a family of many brothers and one sister. After Dad, two more brothers came along to round out a family of nine boys and one girl. He filled his growing-up years working hard as a hired hand on the farms of family and neighbours. He loved fishing and hunting with his dog Otto. In the winters he’d flood a piece of land in the town to skate and play hockey, which he did very well. Learning to play the guitar from his brother Dick was a highlight for Dad, and music became one of his greatest joys.
Dad became employed at Taylor’s Flour and Feed in Saskatoon, throwing 100-pound bags of flour from the truck to the warehouse, and again to the delivery truck to be taken to bakeries in Saskatoon. He married Robina (Ruby) in 1968. The kids came a few years later, Kari in 1972 and Darren in 1973. He later became the owner of the business and worked for many years with Mom side-by-side, making things work.
In Dad’s later years he found a passion for woodworking and tried his hand at making anything that could be made out of wood. Spruce, pine and poplar were readily available at Candle Lake where he spent the best times of his life in joy surrounded by his animals, trees, family, neighbours, and the beautiful lake. Having peace and quiet was restful for Dad; he found that peace up there at the old cabin, and then the new cabin in later months.
Dad is predeceased by his parents Jacob and Helen; brothers Dick, Rod, and Peter; sisters-in-law Elma, Alice, Shirley, and Myrtle; brother-in-law John; and son Darren. He is survived by his wife Ruby, daughter Kari (Jason), daughter-in-law Doreen, brothers Frank, Len, Bob, Ken, and Dave, sister Betty; granddaughters Kaylen (Kari and Jason’s daughter), and Eleshia (Darren’s daughter).
Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in Martens Warman Funeral Home, 402 Central Street West, Warman. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 123 South Railway Street West, Warman, with coffee to follow.
