Brenda Novakoski

May 17, 1961 — February 11, 2023

It is with great sadness to announce that Brenda has lost her battle with cancer on February 11, 2023, at the age of 61 years. She was very strong in her 3 ½ year battle.

Brenda is loved and will be remembered by her husband Randy Novakoski, mom Marsene Sokalofsky, children Riley Novakoski (Annmarie Marinuk), Courtney (Duncan) MacQuarrie, three grandchildren Evangeline, Asher, and Zach. Brenda is also survived by her two sisters Shelly (Peter) Danabassis, Lori (John) Oxby, and nieces and nephews. Brenda was predeceased by her father Rudolph Sokalofsky.

Brenda was born on May 17, 1961, in Saskatoon SK. Brenda lived most of her life in Saskatoon with a brief stay in Lloydminster. She graduated from Walter Murray High School in 1979. While Brenda was going to school, she was quite ambitious with many parttime jobs, Harveys and Nordon Drugs, just to name a few. After graduating, Brenda went on to work for Co-operators Insurance, housekeeping at City

Hospital and she worked for many years with Ex-Cell Hearing Market Mall.

Brenda met Randy Novakoski in February 1981 at a night club named The North 40. From that day on, the relationship grew, and on July 23, 1983, they were married. She gave birth to two children, a boy and a girl. Riley was born September 12, 1986, and Courtney February 22,1988.

Brenda loved spending time with family and friends enjoying the great outdoors. Waterskiing, fishing, going to football games, Riders and Huskies, and also the Edmonton Oilers. She also loved spending time at the lake (Delaronde,) watching her beloved hummingbirds. Brenda also loved camping and traveling, seeing most of western Canada and USA. Brenda enjoyed many Caribbean cruises and two trips to Europe. A bus trip from Rome to London, England, and a river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, Hungary, traveling down the Rhein and Danube Rivers. Other places traveled include Mexico, Panama, and in March we would visit Breda’s mom in Arizona, having great times with family and friends.

September was another month we liked to travel, seeing New York, Niagara Falls, Nova Scotia, Nashville, Vancouver Island.

Brenda was diagnosed with cancer on June 19, 2019. Brenda stayed with Randy at home till May 9, 2022. She was then transferred to Royal University Hospital, then one month later moved to City Hospital for a few months, then on July 28, 2022, move to Preston Care Home.

Brenda was cared for very well by the amazing staff made her very comfortable. All the staff will not be forgotten for the kindness they showed to Brenda and Randy and the care they gave until her passing.

The family would like to acknowledge the great staff at Saskatoon Cancer Center, Royal University Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, and Preston Care Home. All will have a special place in our hearts.

Brenda will be dearly missed by all that new her and for that great smile she always showed us.

A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
