Cam Tu Huynh, 73, of Martensville, Saskatchewan, passed away on August 27th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 3rd, 1950, in Can Tho, Vietnam.
During the Vietnam War, he bravely served in the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) Air Force as a lieutenant. After the fall of Saigon (the Capital of South Vietnam), he made the difficult decision to escape his homeland with his wife and children. This was a dangerous journey that involved many failed attempts at fleeing Vietnam and imprisonment in re-education camps. With Cam Tu’s determined spirit and resourcefulness, he was finally able to safely escape with his family on a small wooden boat. The family sailed for days in the South China Sea and eventually reached the Galang Refugee Camp in the Riau Islands of Indonesia. This led to the family’s arrival in Canada in 1981, where Cam Tu would spend the remaining years working tirelessly to provide for his wife and four children.
Dedicated, loyal, loving, and thoughtful are some words used to describe Cam Tu. He was also known for his cooking skills, specializing in Vietnamese dishes such as pho (beef noodle soup) and various marinated meats. When he was not working as a baker, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or chasing his ten grandchildren around with food, you would find him tending to and relaxing in his lush green garden.
Cam Tu is survived by his wife, Bach Cuc, and their children, Phuong Uyen, Minh Tam, Thu Uyen and Thanh Tam. He was an amazing example of determination, commitment, and perseverance to his children and grandchildren. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather ever. He will be immensely missed by all those who knew him.
Dad, we all love you so much and you will be forever in our hearts.
