Charles Francis Nearing (Chuck)

May 26, 1961-Oct. 8, 2022

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”

Henry B. Adams

Charles (Chuck) Nearing passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2022 at the age of 61. His family is both devastated and shocked by his death.

Chuck grew up in the small town of Dominion. On his first day of school, he walked through the field to the modest four classroom Park Street School on the next street. From there he walked a few more minutes to McDonald High School where he formed many lifelong friendships. After graduation, he was off to Dalhousie University where he obtained his science degree followed by St. Mary’s University where he obtained his teaching degree.

Following the path of many Capers before him, Chuck headed West. He began his teaching career first in Turnor Lake before settling in Beauval, Saskatchewan.

A quiet, unassuming man, Chuck was a dedicated teacher who tried to instill in his students the joy of learning. He saw the potential in all his students and mentored many throughout his esteemed career and became a favourite teacher to many. As they moved on to their chosen careers, many of his students became lifelong friends.

Chuck was a fervent reader, a fierce lover of his vinyl record collection and his childhood home on Cape Breton Island where he reconnected with his family and close friends with each visit home.

Chuck is survived by his daughter Erin (Darcy), son Tristan and the mother of his children Lena Sylvestre. A treasured grampy, he is also survived by his two beautiful granddaughters, Jude and Melody who were the centre of his universe. Also surviving is his faithful fur companion, Bailey.

Chuck is survived by his siblings Paul (Aline), Theresa (Kevin), Rod (Lynn). Also by his two uncles Fred (Michelle), John (Wendy), Aunt Cathy (Jimmy) and a dear cousin Kendra.

Chuck was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Polly (McIvor) Nearing, his grandparents Fred and Marie McIvor and James and Margaret Nearing. Also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Beauval Community Hall in Beauval, Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 2 pm.

Chuck was born to be a teacher. His legacy can best be summed up by the following quote:

“Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”                – John C. Maxwell

Whatever we keep in memory is ours unchanged forever.

See you on the dark side of the moon…
