Dale Warren Gordon Johnston

October 27, 1945 — November 18, 2024

We are saddened to announce the passing of Dale Warren Gordon Johnston, October 27, 1945 - November 18, 2024.

Born in Wilkie, SK, Dale was the second child of Emma and William Johnston and godchild of William and Alice Friedrich. He attended Wilkie McClurg School, followed by two years of accounting at Moose Jaw Tech before starting his career in Saskatoon at CSP Foods.

He married his first wife Winnifred (nee Davis) in the latter 1960s. After Winnifred’s untimely passing, Dale married Janine (nee Duda) in 1980, and they raised three children together.

Dale was a deeply spiritual, faith-filled man; tolerant of everyone and kind to all. He cherished his godchildren. Dale united the Lutheran faith of his upbringing with the Ukrainian Catholic faith and culture.

Dale was the consummate family man, as evidenced by his devotion to soulmate, Janine, his immediate family and in-laws. His love for sport and in particular, hockey, was almost as strong. Those who knew Dale may also remember the blue Chevy Vandura, which was the family vehicle and could fit an entire boys’ hockey team with equipment. His door was always open, and he was the ‘best barbecuer in Saskatoon’. Wintertime he flooded the garden, creating an ice rink that was enjoyed by his own children, their cousins and many friends. He loved nothing more than a houseful of company.

Dale is survived by wife Janine, daughter Lara (and her children Cassandra, Leah and Logan), daughter Haley and son-in-law Ibn (and their children Mikaela and Mariella) and son Michael and daughter-in-law Jessie Leigh (and their children Gabriel, Emily and Hazel). He is also survived by his older sister Donna Rose and her daughter Lydia and granddaughter Felicity.

Prayers will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 7pm, and Divine Liturgy on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 10am, at St George’s Cathedral, 210 Avenue M South, Saskatoon, SK.
