As a child, Dan and his brother Jack were evacuated during the war to Derby, and at 10 years of age and went to a Derby County football match and became an avid supporter. Dan was always quick to tell his friends and neighbours that Canadian football was NOT football. If you ever stopped by their home you would see either golf or football on the TV.

The government made it mandatory that young men serve in the RAF (Royal Air Force) so at the age of 18 Dan served for 3 years.

Dan immigrated to Canada in 1957, from England, and he worked for Armstrong flooring where he travelled to Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, and worked his way up to management. Dan and Barbara met at Riverside Golf club and married on July 15, 1983, they just celebrated 40 years of marriage. Settling in Saskatoon, Dan and Barbara opened the Irish shop in 1983 and enjoyed running until 1998.

He enjoyed his favourite singer Matt Munro and enjoyed music from Jazz to Classical. His favourite comedian shows from England were Only Fools and Horses and Dad’s Army and comedian Spike Milligan. He loved watching the shows on Brit Box. He was a member of the Saskatoon Jazz Club and was on the board of CARG (Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group), on the board of Affinity Credit Union and a member of Riverside Golf and Country Club.

Dan and Barbara went on 14 cruises and trips to England and golf trips to Portugal, Spain and Austria. They went to England in 2002 to the Ryder Cup and were pleased that Europe won. While there, they played at Royal St. David’s Golf Club, a true Links course. Dan and Barbara had rescue dogs and at present a three-legged dog named Everest.
