It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Friesen, on July 11th, 2023, at 79 years.
She was a mom, a sister, an aunt, a daughter, a wife, and one of the most wonderful friends you could have.
Darlene was born May 17th, 1944, in Barrie, Ontario to Anne and Ernest Traver. Two years later, Carol, her only sister, was born.
The girls were raised in Saskatoon, with lots of family around. Darlene still had many friends from her elementary and high school years, but these were the special ones, Darlene, Trudy, , and Thea.
After high school, Darlene went onto business college, then eventually married Leander Friesen on August 1st, 1964. Somewhere in this time period, Darlene fell in love with horses, thanks to Auntie Rene.
In 1968, Tracey was born, and in 1970, Tania was born.
Mom loved so many things, but her favorites were horses and roses. Buttermilk was the first horse mom ever owned, she was with us for over 30 years and was our babysitter when mom had things to do.
Everywhere we lived, mom always had roses and many other flowers.
Darlene had a few jobs during her lifetime. The second longest was at CN where she even checked cars at one point. Her most favorite job though was at Riverside Badminton and Tennis Club. She was there for over 20 years, and she loved everyone there. Derek and Alex were very special to mom, and she especially loved the ladies’ socials.
I really hope mom is happy and pain free where she is, and I hope she has been reunited with family members and all of the many pets we have lost over the years. You and Buttermilk are riding through the forever green, open fields with all of our dogs following behind. I’m sure Nicole and Tessa are riding right along with you.
Until we meet again!
To respect the family’s wishes, there will be no service held at this time.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Darlene Friesen.
