The family of Ed Holynski is saddened to announce his passing on April 22, 2025, at the age of 73.
Ed Holynski, a man whose heart was as vast as the prairies he called home, and whose quiet presence brought comfort, laughter, and kindness to all who knew him.
Ed was born on November 14, 1951, to Stanley and Ann Holynski and was raised on the family farm near Meacham. His early years on the farm taught him that nothing comes easy, but with hard work, anything is achievable. He attended school in Meacham, Colonsay, and Saskatoon, preparing for a life that would be rich in both purpose and connection.
He was never one to shy away from lending a hand. Whether helping on the family farm, working alongside his Uncle Joe, putting in time at the Pop Shop, or farming and doing lawn care shoulder-to-shoulder with his brother, Ed poured his heart into everything he did. For many years, he and his brother shared the responsibilities and rewards of farm life, until Ed eventually continued on his own, farming with pride until he reached a well-earned retirement.
But Ed's life wasn't always just about work - it was filled with the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He loved attending farm auctions, not just for the deals, but for the conversations. He had a soft spot for gardening and could never resist a good garage sale. His daily coffee visits with his buddies were a ritual that he rarely missed, and the casino offered a bit of fun and excitement that he thoroughly enjoyed.
Ed was the kind of person you could always count on. If you needed a ride, you called Ed. If you needed help, he was already there. His generosity and caring nature were constants in the lives of those around him. He always welcomed visitors into his home and into his heart with genuine warmth.
He had a love for music and culture too, often attending Folkfest to soak in the community spirit. And if you were ever wondering where Ed was on a Saturday night, chances are he was at home, tuned in to the radio, listening to his beloved polka party - a tradition that brought him joy.
Ed was many things. A son, a brother, an uncle, a neighbour, and a friend. He lived quietly, loved deeply, and gave generously. Though his presence will be missed dearly, the memories, kindness, and laughter he leaves behind will continue to live on in each of us.
Before Ed's passing, he got to enjoy one last coffee with his buddies, followed by the hope of winning the jackpot at the VLTs.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Ann Holysnki, brother Frank, and Ben. He is survived by his brother Wally (Shirley), sister-in-law Lynn, numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, Aunt Louise, and cousins.
Ed's Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon, SK. Interment to take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1502 2nd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK.
