Edwin James Melashenko

March 18, 1943 — November 7, 2024

Edwin James Melashenko passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

Dad was born on March 18, 1943 and grew up on the family farm near Arelee, SK with his parents John and Mary, and four siblings.

He attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a Bachelor of Political Science degree.

Dad married Mom, Eunice Berg, in 1969. The had a very special bond and would have celebrated their 55th anniversary this year. Dad was heartbroken when Mom passed away in April and could never get used to life on his own. We take comfort in the fact that they’re reunited after such a short time apart.

Dad started out his career working as a social worker at Social Services in Saskatoon. After a few years, he decided that office life wasn’t for him. Dad and Mom bought the family farm where they raised their sons, Richard and David. Dad loved the peace and quiet of rural life, operating farm machinery, tinkering on his tractors, checking on crops, going for drives in the countryside, and stopping in to visit friends for coffee.

Music was important in our family and Dad was a trained violinist, sometimes playing with Mom accompanying him on piano.

Dad was incredibly smart and always had a stack of books nearby. He loved discussing current events and politics, as well as watching baseball and curling with Mom.

Edwin is survived by son Richard (Hina) and their daughter Samara; son David (Chasity) and their son Elliott; as well as his brother and sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
