Ellen May Scott (Foley) passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024.
Ellen was born November 2, 1943 in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan to Anne and Harvey Foley. They moved from the farm into Moose Jaw in 1949 so that she could go to school. Ellen had a total of 5 siblings and they spent their time between Moose Jaw and the farm just south of Moose Jaw. She worked during high school at the Union Hospital in the pharmacy department and as a ward clerk. In 1963 she graduated High School and worked at the training school as an aid. After High School, she obtained her teaching certificate through The University of Regina in 1967.
During the fall of 1967 she moved to Piapot where she lived with Jimmy and Millie McDowel while teaching at Manville school. That fall she met Neil and they got married in the fall of 1968 and moved to Calgary. Calgary was their home for the next 6 years where they had their two sons. In the spring of 1974, they decided to move back to the Scott Farm in Piapot so with a three year old and a 2 month old they moved back to the farm with no indoor bathroom. While farming was not always the easiest life, the friends and neighbors made it home to her for the next 33 years. In her spare time (when she was not running the tractor and baler, cooking meals or taking the kids to sporting events/activities) she was known for her crafting skills. She spent countless hours crafting (crocheting, knitting, sewing, beading, macrame, leather work and even took some drawing classes) and then attended craft shows to sell her creations. She also spent many evenings going to square dancing with the Manville Forward and Backers. She even ventured out to try “calling” during square dancing.
In 2007, Ellen made the decision to move off the family farm and up to Saskatoon to be closer to her boys and she made Saskatoon home for the next 17 years.
She was predeceased by her Husband Neil Scott, Daughter Katherine Scott, Parents Anne and Harvey Foley, Brother Gene Foley.
Ellen is survived by her two sons Kelly Scott (Tanya Scott) granddaughter Saige Scott, Kyle Scott (Melanie Scott) grand-daughter Jaidan Scott (Tony Dietz) great-grandson Kashton Dietz, grand-daughter Jordyn Stansfied (Luke Stansfield) great grand-daughter Olivia and great grand-son Jaxton. Sisters Betty-Anne Watamunuk (Roger), Cheryle Foley (Erin), Brothers Danny Foley (Debbie) and Lyle Foley as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family service will take place at a future date.
