Elsie Peters

December 20, 1934 — November 24, 2021

We are sad to announce the passing of Elsie (Schellenberg) Peters on November 24, 2021, at Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon at the age of 86 years. Mom was pre-deceased by her husband, Dan. She leaves behind her children Sharon (Dale) Giesbrecht, Linda Giesbrecht, Valerie (Darwin) Zacharias and Murray Peters; 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Mom married Dan Peters from Aberdeen on November 18, 1956. They worked side by side on the farm with a dairy herd of about 20 cows. Sharon started the added role of motherhood for Mom and Linda, Valerie and Murray added to the busyness of their farm life. Mom was active in the Aberdeen Mennonite Church in the choir. She also served as the church pianist/organist. She was involved in the River Park Ladies Aid who gathered for charitable work, quilting, conversation, and coffee. Her garden was always large and fruitful, and her chickens provided many eggs. Music was a great joy and release for Mom. She heard it through her ears and played it from her heart. When we kids were older, Mom started looking for other activities to take part in. She joined a ladies bowling team in Saskatoon. She also began her first part time job out of the home working at her sister Evelyn’s convenience store in Saskatoon. After moving to various places in Aberdeen and Saskatoon, mom and dad settled into retirement. In 2001 Mom and Dad moved into Bethany Manor in Saskatoon to begin a new chapter in their lives.

In 2018 Mom was officially diagnosed with the heart wrenching disease of dementia and moved into Stensrud Lodge to receive long term care. The staff there say she was a delight and always kept them wondering what her mischievous smile was about and what she was up to. A big thank you to all the staff at Stensrud for your kindness and care of Mom.

A service of remembrance will be held at Martens Warman Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 10:30 a.m.. Interment will be attended by family only later in the afternoon. Since mom was sensitive to the scent that fresh cut flowers gave, in lieu, please consider donations to MCC of Canada or Stensrud Lodge in mom’s name. In accordance with the Government of Saskatchewan standards, the use of masks indoors is mandatory. Arrangements entrusted to Martens Warman Funeral Home (306) 934-4888.
