Generous of heart, constant of faith, leaving the world a brighter and better place.
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Frank Dodd at home on August 29, 2024 at the age of 86 years.
Born at the Canora Hospital on August 19, 1938, Frank spent his childhood and teenage years on the family farm near Invermay, Saskatchewan. After completing high school, he worked for a year at a mining company in Thompson, Manitoba before entering the electronics technology program at the Radio College of Canada (now Yorkville University) in Toronto, Ontario. The knowledge Frank acquired from his degree, together with his keen attention to detail, led him to work for a variety of engineering organizations including: servicing x-ray machines for X-ray and Radium Industries, after which he provided technical support services to electrical engineers within the Department of Electrical Engineering at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario. Working at Queens until the early 1970’s, Frank then moved back to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to be nearer to family and friends. He spent the majority of his career with SED Systems in a variety of capacities before moving into the dynamic field of Quality Assurance in which he remained keenly interested throughout his life.
Frank had a great love for the outdoors and taking part in numerous outdoor activities. As a member of the Saskatoon Nordic Ski Club, Frank met the love of his life, Carmel (nee. Colton) whom he married on September 16th, 1989. Frank and Carmel’s adventurous spirits and shared love of travel and the outdoors saw them take numerous ski and canoe trips within Saskatchewan and beyond. Retirement brought new opportunities to expand their interests in skiing and canoeing, and winter travel to warmer climes as members of an RV Travel Group. They experienced many memorable adventures during their trips throughout the United States, Mexico and Central America and made many lifelong friends. Closer to home, a lakeside cabin at Iroquois Lake filled their summers, relaxing and spending time with their friends and family there.
During their life together, they were also very active volunteering their time with several charities/service groups aimed at helping those in need including Egadz and Station 20 West (of which they were founding donors). They were actively involved within their church, St. John Bosco, R.C. Parish where they joined in 1990. In 2012, Frank and Carmel moved to the Wolf Willow Cohousing community where they had been involved as founding members of this sustainable, cooperative living community. Frank remained an active resident and member of Wolf Willow Cohousing up to his passing.
Frank was predeceased by his loving wife, Carmel, in January 2016; as well as his parents, Sidney and Marion Dodd, and his brothers, Jack and Charlie.
Frank is survived by his sister Mary Douglas of Conquest, Saskatchewan, members of Carmel’s extended family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Frank’s life will be held at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church (1202 Ave O S, Saskatoon, SK) on September 24th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation (279 3rd Ave N Saskatoon, SK S7K2H8), The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (2 Lansing Square, Suite 601, Toronto, ON, M2J4P8) or a charity of your choice.
Frank will be laid to rest with his beloved Carmel in the St. Peter Celestine Roman Catholic Cemetery (Indian Hill) near Pakenham, Ontario.
