Genowefa Krasko

1927 — 2025

With heartbreak we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Babcia, and Ciocia, Genowefa (Gene) Krasko on February 19, 2025, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

She was born on April 28, 1927, in south eastern Poland. In 1940, together with her Family and the people living in the region, she was evacuated by the Russian army to Romania. After the war, her Family was relocated to north western Poland. Our parents married [1948], started a family, and lived in Dobiegniew, until immigrating to Canada in 1962, settling in Saskatoon.

Adapting to life in a new country and learning a new language was very difficult for Mom, but she worked tirelessly along with our Dad, to provide a better life for her children. The Polish Community was a place of support and lifelong friendships. We have many fond memories of picnics at Pike Lake, Polish dances and performances, Christmas Eve midnight masses, and the delicious food at the Oplatik lunches.

Mom loved her vegetable and flower gardens, planting them at the end of April and so proud to see them sprouting as others were just starting to seed their's in May. She loved preparing Sunday and Holiday dinners much to the delight of her Family. She also loved to sew, making most of her wardrobe, and many of her grandchildren's Halloween costumes. Her energy was envied by many as she managed her Family, home, and full- time job. Above all, her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents Jozef and Magdalena, her infant daughters Danuta and Jadwiga, her husband Stanislaw (Stanley), her twin brother Bronislaw, and her sister Zofia.

She is survived by her children: Irena (Hans ✝); Waleria (Michael); Rita (Randy); and John.

Her Grandchildren: Kim (Randy); Cindy (Nelson ✝) and Tricia (Grant); Stefanie (Levi), Kayla (Scott), and Nicholas; Michelle (Brad) and Cheryl.

Her Great Grandchildren: Aidan and Kenzie; Ethan, Amelia, Emma, Elizabeth, and Daniel; Brady and Mason; Sabrina and Jamie; Koa; Emery and Jayden. Her nieces Stella, Kathee (Erik), Janina, and nieces, nephews, and cousins in Poland.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nayar, the Doctors and Nurses at RUH for their kindness, compassion, and care.

Also, a special thank you to St. Volodymyr Staff and Residents, Mom truly enjoyed her last nine years at the Villa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Our Lady of Czestochowa Polish Parish, 301 Avenue Y South, Saskatoon.
