George Demchuk

October 3, 1922 — March 29, 2025

Our independent, resourceful, loving and thoughtful Dad, Gido and Great-Gido left us to join his beautiful wife, Pauline, on March 29th, 2025.

Born on October 3, 1922, to Nicholai and Paraska (nee Lunek) Demchuk in Canora, Sask., Dad fully lived his 102 years. The youngest of 5 sons, Dad grew up on the family farm. Dad served in the Canadian military from 1942 – 1945. He was a member of a variety of organizations, including 13 years on the Canora School Unit Board, the Masons, the Shriners and the Kiwanis Club.

Dad became a farmer himself and loved his life on the farm. He could fix anything and never shied away from a challenge. Dad often quoted his own father, saying, “There’s no such thing as can’t do it. You figure out a way.” And he did. Family, neighbours and friends all benefitted from Dad’s ‘can-do’ attitude.

On October 24, 1953, Dad married his life-partner, Pauline Wlasichuk. Together they built a house, a farmyard, a family, and shared a love of nature, the farm lifestyle, family and friends.

In honour of his father, Nicholai Demchuk, who had one of the first threshing crews in the area, Dad and Mom hosted several years of an old-fashioned threshing demonstration. Family and friends of all ages would gather on the farm to watch, participate in throwing sheaves, visit and, of course, have lunch. Heartbreakingly, Mom passed away on August 25, 1982, at the age of 49.

In November of 2006, Dad moved off the farm to Warman, Sask. Always the farmer, Dad turned part of his yard into a mini-orchard, fed the birds, enjoyed woodworking and built an endless variety of items for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed engaging in rain-gauge wars with his son-in -law. When it was suggested he should no longer climb ladders, he retorted, ‘I think I am old enough to decide what I can or cannot do’. His dry and witty sense of humour will be missed.

Predeceased by Pauline, his parents and his brothers Paul, John, William (Bill) and Nick, Dad’s legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: son Howard (wife Doreen; children Chris (spouse Nikki; Dallas, Destiny, Paisley, Cierra, Austin, Mason;great-great grandchildren Amelia and Grayson) Beth ( Dyllan; Lexi) Boyd (Dakota; Bentley) and his daughter Carol ((husband Bernard Kosolofski; Jaxson, Karter (wife Mackenzie; Lennyn, Leo, Lainey) and Silken ( Donovan)).

Dad, you were such an inspiration to us all. How will we continue without you? As you were so fond of saying when times were tough, “One day at a time.”

The family will lay George’s ashes to rest at the Canora cemetery beside his loving wife, Pauline.

Thank you to all who played a part in George’s life.
