George Edward Boschman

It is with great sorrow that we announce that George Edward Boschman (Born in Petaigan Saskatchewan), passed away at the age of 79 years, on Sunday, March 19th, 2023, in Abbotsford, BC.

George was born to Jacob Boschman and Elizabeth Boschman (Miller) (Dyck). He was the 4th born of 6 siblings. Daniel Boschman and Sharyn (Boschman), Reuben Boschman (deceased) & Mary Boschman, Susan Fast (Boschman) and Merne Fast, Anne Ens (Boschman) & John Ens (deceased) and Mary Harder (Boschman) & Marvin Harder. He was an Uncle to 13 nieces and nephews and a great uncle to thier children. George was married twice. He first married Lorraine Darlene Hiebert (deceased) in 1964 (Divorced 1971), they had two children, Brenda Lee Boschman (Chomiak) and Dale George Boschman (deceased) He later married Janice Reid in 1983 and raised her son Lance Reid for the duration on their marriage. (divorced 1993)

George enjoyed working with his hands. He loved building, gardening, fixing clocks and watches, fishing and playing pool. He even did a little auto body work. He enjoyed working as a millworker for the majority of his career. A highlight for George, was his yearly trip to Mexico. If it wasn’t Mexico it was somewhere else that was hot, like Knotsberry Farm in California or a trip to Florida. He had a passion for aviation and NASA. Loved the Abbotsford air show and loved his trip to NASA where he watched a spaceship about to launch. He was also an animal lover. Especially cats. Although, if you had ever been to his apartment you would know he also loved dogs especially dogs that wore hats and played pool. He also loved to invite his grandchildren (Brandon and Tyson Chomiak) over to swim in the pool at his apartment. He loved watching them having fun and to spoil them with icecream and a bbq after.

George was a hard working man. He worked hard his whole life so that he could enjoy his retirement and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease around the same time. He was determined to beat the prognosis and worked out every day and sometime twice a day. Using weight training and playing tennis to keep up his muscle tone and coordination. He still travelled and enjoy his life with the help of his friend Betty Mossinkoff. George had prolonging the effects of his Parkinson’s until September 2019 when he endured a life changing fall while alone in his apartment. He never recovered from this and was consequently confined to a wheel chair and spent the remainder of his life at Cottage Pavillion care home in Abbotsford, BC. During his time there he was so determined to walk again. Every day he found a hand rail in the hallway of his room and would pull himself up to keep his leg strength. This came to an end when he was isolated during the COVID 19 shutdown. This began to expedite George’s dementia caused from Parkinson’s. He was no longer allowed to exercise on the handrails in the hallway and without having visitors he began to deteriorate both mind and body. He was loved by the care-home staff and volunteers. He was always so friendly and kind to everyone. Except when his roommate would call him names. The nurses said on a couple of occasions they fought like school age boys. He was not one to hold a grudge and would soon be over any strife.

He passed away peacefully with family around. We are at ease knowing that he is with Jesus and will no longer suffer. We all love and miss him very much and look forward to the day we meet again.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Martens Warman Funeral Home, 402 Central Street West, Warman, SK.
