With saddened hearts we announce that Helen passed away peacefully on October 15, 2023, in the Royal University Hospital, in Saskatoon, SK., with her daughters Robin, Randa & Maxine by her side. After suffering a stroke in 2012, she lived the last 10 years in Luther Special Care Home, where she was surrounded by kind & caring staff.

She married Maxwell Smith on August 27th, 1949, and she loved raising a family of seven children with him, living in Somme, Sintaluta, Naicam, and Girvin. When the children were older, she became the postmistress in Girvin, before retiring with Max to Saskatoon.
She was active in Redeemer Lutheran Church & always had a beautiful yard full of flowers. Helen and Max had many good times at the Scandinavian Club in Saskatoon, sharing wonderful food with many dear friends and never missing a dance. No one will ever forget Helen’s homemade cinnamon buns, rhubarb pies and angel food cakes.
Helen is lovingly survived by her six daughters: Maxine (Garry), Susan, Janis (Don), Terri (Bill), Robin (Robin), Randa (Mark) and her son Barton (Michelle); her fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her sister Audrey Roenspies.
