Howard Adam was born on March 30, 1931 and entered eternity on October 27, 2024. He was the eldest of three children. He grew up a child of the depression, in Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. As a young boy he developed a strong work ethic, displayed by working various jobs in the community.
At the age of 15 during an evangelistic meeting he understood the gift of salvation. He accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour which changed the trajectory of his life forever.
At age 18 Howard sat behind Gerry in church one Sunday. Within a week they had their first date. They were married within 18 months and celebrated their 72nd anniversary last June. Their marriage demonstrated God’s design of commitment as “two being one”. They were blessed with two children, Larry and Carolyn. Family was most important to them. As the families grew each person was supported in their individual interests and activities. Each family member was loved in a very special and specific way and prayed for daily. Howard and Gerry were thrilled with their family’s life choices.
They also enjoyed travel, whether it was to Europe or to the lake with the trailer.
They invested in lifelong friendships, in spite of how much they moved.
Howard’s deep faith motivated him to serve God in many areas such as teaching Sunday school, serving on church boards, being a greeter at church, leading home Bible study, hosting couples club, helping in nursery and singing in choirs Howard’s love language was service to others. Together, Howard and Gerry provided for many in their time of need.
His entire 40 year work career was with CP rail. From the age of 18 on, he worked as a relief operator, station agent, train dispatcher and mobile supervisor. These positions moved them to many different small towns in Saskatchewan and Alberta finally ending up in Saskatoon. Each of these moves required the conversion of railroad stations into a warm and inviting home.
