With saddened hearts, we announce that Joan passed away peacefully at the Hospice at Glengarda, Saskatoon, on February 11th, 2023, at the age of 94 years.
Joan was born on Oct 5, 1928, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Her father was a CP rail agent. The family moved a lot during Joan’s early life with homes in Kenora, Ontario; Breadenbury and Moosomin Saskatchewan; and Molson Manitoba. Her last family home was in Stockholm, Saskatchewan where she finished high school.
Joan met her husband Bill in Stockholm after he returned from WWII & they were married in 1947.
Bill’s job as an elevator agent with Pool moved them around southeast Saskatchewan with homes in Spy Hill, Steelman, Wordsworth and then back to Stockholm. A job change to the potash industry, first in Esterhazy and then later to Saskatoon, resulted in moving the family to Saskatoon in 1971, where they resided for the remainder of their lives.
Joan’s ultimate priority was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her life. She was extremely close with all of them, and they all experienced her love and caring nature.
Joan enjoyed curling and cards, rarely turning down a card game with family and friends. In her later years she discovered on-line scrabble and loved to have as many as 15 to 20 scrabble games going at once.
Joan was known as an exceptional hostess and homemaker and always made everyone feel loved and welcome in her home. She was also an avid gardener.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Bill of 47 years, parents Clinton & Maude Macgregor, siblings Fred, Vivian, and Isabel; son-in-law Andrew Starky.
She is survived by her sisters Colleen and Lois; children Valerie (Allan) Herperger, Kathryn (Michael) Earle, Bill (Alison) Laing; grandchildren Bryce (Lara) Herperger, Amy (Scott) Baker, Jocelyn (Kylie) Barnstable, Daniel Starky, Adam (Tasha) Laing, Melanie (David) Patterson, Emma Laing; great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Jovie, Tessa, Ella, Jackson, and Rachel.
