LEIER, Eunice "Joanne" (née Kendall)
November 20, 1933 - April 9, 2025
It is with great sadness that we share the news that our Mom has passed away peacefully at 91 years of age. Our beloved 'JoJo' leaves behind a family legacy that echoes in the 14 (plus 1 on-the-way) direct descendants and all of her much loved family members. Born in Pleasantdale, Joanne's family moved to Saskatoon and she attended Bedford Collegiate and the Teachers College. She taught Grades 1 thru 8 at the one room schoolhouse in Struan. While there she met and fell in love with Don, who passed away in November of 2022 after 65 years of marriage. They raised their family of 4 in Montgomery Place, where Joanne attended Trinity United Church, was a leader of the CGIT and a member of the UCW - baking goods, serving meals, and ensuring that the church became a tightly knit community. JoJo was also involved with Beavers (Scouts Canada) and served as one of the leaders of a Beavers troop. She took pride in her beautiful yard of flowers and her family adored her famous “JoJo relish” from Don's immense garden. JoJo was proud of her family heritage and kept many documents and photos to ensure that the family history was not forgotten. She travelled to Vermont to visit the home of her grandfather and great grandfather, where the town residents still celebrated the Kendall family and threw a parade in her honour! In their later years, JoJo and Don enjoyed travelling but mostly enjoyed their summers at Pratt Lake at their cabin aptly named 'Del Boca Vista' with many family gatherings – walking the “loop”, painting rocks, and eating “dough gods”. Joanne possessed an artistic and creative soul creating beautiful drawings and paintings as well as excellent crocheting and knitting. Her passions in life are reflected in all of her children: Leslie (Errol) Fisher, Mark aka 'Bud' (Jenna), Todd (Kathy) and Lisa (Steve) Thomson. JoJo was an exceptional grandmother and great-grandmother and doted over Corey Fisher (Katie: Ana, Flynn), Kevin Fisher (Jenna: 'Ro' Rosalind), Matthew Leier (Jessica: Sophia), Hayley Leier (Stephen), Rachel Silverberg (Cole), Naomi Silverberg, Isabella 'Bella' Boot (Jaxson), and Sam Thomson (William). Joanne was a loving and caring older sister for her siblings Darlene Schneider (Gene), Allan 'Buck' Kendall (Maryanne) and Judy Bereza (Dave). JoJo loved her family, loved to play tile rummy, loved to laugh and we will miss her deeply and remember her fondly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Society. Special thanks to Dr. Boechler and the exceptional, hard working health care workers at St.Paul's and City Hospitals.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Joanne.
