John Braun

August 1934 – May 2021

Our Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and friend to many, is now rejoicing with our heavenly father and with those that have gone before him. Dad was born on August 7th, 1934 in Blumenthal, Saskatchewan to Jacob and Mary Braun and was the oldest from a family of 9. He had a variety of jobs including logging, construction, driving bus, and farming, mainly in Saskatchewan, but also spent some time in Alberta and B.C. He liked to keep busy and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Thresherman’s Club which he looked forward to every year. Dad also enjoyed going to the Rock Ridge Music Festival and open-air meetings on Saturdays in summertime. Some of his favorite hobbies were going to auctions, collecting and selling antiques, and going for coffee when he wasn’t tinkering in the back yard or working on different projects. Dad’s life had its’ trials and tribulations but through it all his faith remained strong. His first wife, Mary (Bartsch) was tragically taken from him in August 1968, leaving behind 4 children (Jenny, Richard, Wendy, and Raymond). Dad fell in love and married Anne in 1970 and they had 4 more children (Carmela, Rachel, Naomi, and Matthew). Dad accepted the Lord at a revival meeting in Hague after speaking with John D Friesen. He was a member of the Hague Gospel Church where he and Mom also served as deacons for a few years. He would read his Bible and pray daily, starting each day with The Daily Bread. This last winter Dad would read a chapter each day from the book of Proverbs. He has left behind his loving wife Anne, his 8 children and their spouses: Jenny Pegg, Richard Braun (Barb), Wendy Dyck, Raymond Braun, Carmela Pambrun (Clifford), Rachel Unruh (Greg), Naomi Wall (Frank) and Matthew Braun, 17 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, Dad’s siblings: Anne Friesen, Mary Fehr (Ben), Eva Wiebe, Adina Janzen (John), Lena Peters (Gerald), Mona Redekopp (Peter), Eva Harder (Dave), Neil Bartsch (Mary), Jae Bartsch (Doreen), Helen Tiessen (Ken), Betty Rempel (John), Tena Penner (John), Mary Skakun (David), Frank Dyck (Margaret), Peter Dyck, Susan Wiebe (Jake), Jake Dyck, John Dyck, his mother-in-law Helen Dyck and countless friends who will miss him dearly, but we are happy that he is up in heaven. The family thanks everyone for their prayers, love, and support during these times. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all the staff of the RUH for their kind care and attention to Dad and support for our family in his last days. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Hague Gospel Church, Covid protocols will be followed. A Private Immediate Family Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021. You are welcome to join us via livestream at www.distantlink.com/martenswarman.html
