John Ens

March 3, 1930 — November 15, 2023

John Ens was born March 3, 1930, to Isaac and Katerina (Janzen) Ens, at Schoenwise, SK. He was the youngest of 7 children. He was born last and died last.

He grew up very poor with his parents and siblings, but they always managed to get by.

On November 9, 1952, John married Helena (Dyck) Ens, on the bride’s parents farm near Osler, SK. To this union were added 7 children: Edna, Harry, Erna, Marvin, Darlene, Leonard, and Victor.

Dad did whatever he could to provide for his growing family, and boy oh boy, did his boys grow LOL!

He was a farmer at heart, and he ran a dairy farm for many years, with the help of his wife and children. He worked at many different jobs to keep his family fed. He drove school bus, drove caterpillar in the gravel pits, drove gravel truck, and hauled many tanks of water for people.

Dad also enjoyed horses on his farm.

Dad was also very musical, he taught himself to play guitar, mouth organ, violin, button and piano accordions, and electric organ. If he knew the tune, he could play the instruments. He played by ear.

Our family times growing up consisted of playing ball in the summer time, where Dad and Mom would often join in. We have many wonderful memories of growing up on the farm.

Dad was baptized in the Old Colony Church, on June 2, 1952.

John is survived by his 7 children: Edna (Abe), Harry (Kathy), Erna (Herman), Marvin (Dorothy), Darlene (Simon), Leonard (Linda), and Victor (Coralea); grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law on mom’s side; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Helena (Dyck) Ens of 55 years; 1 granddaughter Twyla McPhee; his parents; and all of his siblings and their spouses.

He will be missed by all who knew him! See you later!
