She also leaves behind her loyal dog Rex, in-laws: Joyce Hetchler, Bertha Swan, Lucille Turcotte, Yvonne (Doug) Fisher, Muriel Turcotte, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
LaVon was predeceased by her husband Maurice Turcotte, her sons-in-law Rick Frischholz and Warren Norrie, her parents George and Marcella Hetchler, and her siblings: Devona (Bernie) Pongracz, Floss (Earl) Gussman, Arvella (Clayton) Cantelo, Norman (Connie) Hetchler, Howard Hetchler, Vernon (Joan) Hetchler, and Biff Hetchler. She was also predeceased by her in-laws: Alfred and Rose Amande Turcotte, Rosaire Turcotte, Paul (Beatrice) Turcotte, Jack Swan, and nephews: Douglas Fisher, Lyle Hetchler, and Ernie Shields.
LaVon was born on March 7, 1939, the seventh of eight children to George and Marcella Hetchler in Melfort, SK. She grew up on the farm near Pleasantdale, SK, and attended the one-room schoolhouse at Leviathan. She often shared fun and adventurous stories about her childhood on the farm. In 1957, LaVon left the farm and moved to Saskatoon, where she found work at the STC bus depot restaurant. It was here that she met Maurice, and they were married on September 12, 1959.
First and foremost LaVon was proud to be called a "domestic engineer" of her home and family. She also had various outside employment including, City Hospital, Express Bakery, and Federated Co-op filling Christmas Boxes, to name a few. In 1978, she began working with Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in prearrangements, where she became one of the most successful salespeople in Canada. She was passionate about this work and took great pride in her accomplishments.
LaVon and Maurice shared a love of travel, visiting Las Vegas and Arizona with friends and family. They also enjoyed attending auctions—where LaVon was known by her auction number 1095. She loved bidding on anything, whether she needed it or not. Her enthusiasm for auctions became a family tradition, and the number 1095 is now forever etched in the memories—and tattoos—of her loved ones.
Another of LaVon’s passions was garage sales, where she could be found using her unique sales strategies to strike deals with family, neighbors, and even strangers. She also enjoyed trips to the casino, and somehow, she always seemed to leave with more money than she arrived with.
LaVon's true joy, however, was spending time with children—whether it was the neighborhood kids or her beloved grandchildren. She opened her home to everyone and was always found outside, playing games and creating fun and chaos. As her grandchildren grew, LaVon shared special bonds with each one, and she would do anything for them. From baking and cooking to road trips, and sleepovers. She cherished every moment spent with them. LaVon was especially proud to watch her grandchildren play sports, attending games and tournaments whenever she could.
After Maurice became a resident at Oliver Lodge, LaVon then moved to Oliver Place to be closer to him. Following his passing, LaVon continued to live at Oliver Place, where she made many wonderful friends and always had a story to share. Her strength, humor, and love for life will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place, and the celebration of LaVon's Life will be held on May 12th, 2025 at 10:00 am, at St. Paul's Co-cathedral. 720 Spadina Cres., East. Saskatoon, SK. Interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic and/or the Jim Pattinson Children’s Hospital.
