Leona Hazelwanter

August 13, 1942 — December 8, 2023

With deep sadness, the family of Leona Hazelwanter (nee Moldenhauer) announces her passing at the age of 81.

Leona was born in Colonsay, SK, the only girl in a family of ten children. After growing up on the farm, Leona went to Humboldt to train as a Registered Nurse. She and her husband, Dennis, were married for 45 happy years and had four children. Their family lived in Calgary, AB, for many years before returning to Saskatchewan and settling in Saskatoon, where she lived the rest of her life. Leona was loved by everyone who knew her. She was an exceptional woman who was deeply compassionate, selfless, and loving. This was reflected in her life-time role as a nurturer, not only during the years she nursed, but as a mother, a volunteer, and a caregiver to many family members. Leona loved to travel, visiting with family and friends and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Leona is lovingly remembered by her children: Don (Nellie), Deb, and Jodi (Billy); her grandchildren: Samantha (John), Whitney (Joshua), Benjamin, Gabriel, and Rowan; her great-grandchildren: Soren and James; her brothers: Joe, Wayne

(Charlotte), Ed (Pauline), Jim, Richard (Deb), Hal (Patricia), and Paul (Sherry); and 11 brother and sister-in-laws; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents: Ida and Zachaus; husband: Dennis; daughter: Constance; brothers: Larry and Jack; and 13 brother and sister-in-laws.

Funeral services for Leona will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 1121 Northumberland Avenue, in Saskatoon, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11:00 am.

The service will be available to view via Livestream link https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/83415

Leona’s final resting place will be beside Dennis at the Columbarium in St. John’s Cathedral (Saskatoon) in the summer of 2024.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Parkinson’s Society.
