Linda Mary Michalenko

July 25, 1949 — April 22, 2023

It is with profound sadness that the family of Linda Mary Michalenko announces her sudden passing, on April 22, 2023 at the age of 73.

Linda was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Esther Beckett. She was born in Saskatoon where she resided throughout her life. She met and married her first love Bernie Michalenko on October 19, 1968. Linda is survived by her husband of 54 years Bernie, and 3 loving children. Her son Dean (Colleen) grandchildren Jackson and Paige. Her daughter Kim (Sean) grandchildren Rylee, Kaitlyn and Baylie and her daughter Tanya (Mike) grandchild Drew (Ashliegh), as well as her beloved dog Bella.

Throughout their marriage, they built a life together in Saskatoon where they purchased a house on Steeves Ave where they resided for 46 years. Linda had a love for children. She made it a priority to be a stay-at-home mom for her 3 children. When they were grown, she decided she wasn’t done! She took on the responsibility of running a before and after-school program where she brought joy and love to all of her kids.

When her children were young, summers were usually spent at Sandy Bay Campground at Candle Lake. Many happy memories were made there with Bernie’s brother Terry and wife Libby, as well as their close friends Fay and Brian. Days were filled with boating, beach time, and cooking bush pies around the campfire while the sun set. Linda kept her love for lake life alive, enjoying her trips to Turtle Lake with Dean and his family, and back to Candle with Kim and her family. She was sure to bring her bush pie and card skills with her.

Linda found another joy and getaway when her daughter Tanya got married and moved to Texas. This became her annual destination where she could spend precious time with Tanya, and her newly acquired family. Mike was sure to have a new stop planned for her each time she arrived, so that every trip felt like a new one. She was embraced by her Texas family and enjoyed the break from the Saskatchewan weather in the warm Texas sun.

.Linda loved bowling and for many years she could be found with her friends, playing in a league at Fairhaven Bowl. She also had a love of flowers.  She would spend hours searching the city for just the right plants to fill her flower garden. Her hobbies of gardening, crocheting, and cooking were all loved by everyone that had the privilege of enjoying them.

When Linda was with family and friends, you would be hard- pressed not to find her challenging you to a game of Rummy, Crib, Dice, or Kaiser. If you accepted, you were usually on the receiving end of a big loss that she was not afraid to let you know about.  Her competitive nature was infectious.

Linda was not only loved by her and Bernies’s families, (who embraced her so dearly that his siblings called her sister), but by her closest and dearest friend, the late Lynda Salahub   Together they spent a lot of time socializing and making perogies for extra money. Their legendary perogies were the biggest hit on the holidays.

She will be greatly missed. But what we all will miss the most is that laugh.   Her very contagious laughter will be remembered by all that had the honour to meet her and hear it.

Linda passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
