Lucienne Marie Smith

December 8, 1931 — April 17, 2025

Saskatoon

Lucienne Marie Smith, born December 8, 1931, in McCord, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon. She was a beloved member of her community who touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and devotion.

Lucienne leaves to cherish her memory her children: Albert (Pauline), Paul (Karen), and Mary Ann; four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Yvonne Grosenick and Yvette Dumaine; and numerous friends and members of her church family.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Ted, and her second husband, Charles.

Lucienne’s early schooling took place at Mount Zion School, just a half mile north of her family's homestead. At the age of 12, she went to Gravelbourg for 10 months to help care for a young child while the mother’s husband was away at war. She later returned home and worked as the fireman and caretaker at the school for three years.

At 17, Lucienne moved to Regina to work at Simpson Sears. She later returned to Lafleche and waitressed at Chan’s Café. In 1955, she completed her C.N.A. course in Saskatoon and, after graduating in December, returned to Lafleche to work at the local hospital.

In February 1956, she married Ted. Albert was born the following January, followed by Paul in 1963, and MaryAnn in 1965. Ted and Lou opened their home to many teacher boarders, nieces, and nephews. In 1964, Lou returned to work, which brought welcome variety to her days as a mother, house painter, yard maintainer, and caregiver.

In December 1966, Ted took a job at the Allan Potash Mine, prompting a move to Saskatoon on April 1, 1967. Leaving behind family, friends, and work was difficult, but Lucienne quickly became active in her new community. She joined the C.W.L., sold Tupperware for a time, trained in Reflexology, and became a Shaklee distributor. As her children grew up and left home, Lucienne found meaning in volunteering with Spiritual Care at Royal University Hospital—a role she came to love deeply.

Faith was central to her life. She remained actively involved in her church and formed lasting friendships within her parish. After Ted’s passing, Lucienne married Charles Smith in 2001, and they shared 15 cherished years together until his passing.

Lucienne lived a life marked by compassion, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her days were filled with knitting, baking, and praying with others. She brought comfort and joy to those around her and left a legacy of service, love, and resilience.
