It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce Marlene Eckert passed away with family by her side at Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon on May 21, 2022, at the age of 63 years.

Marlene was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan and grew up in Abbey on the family farm.  She moved to Saskatoon and attended Kelsey Institute.  After graduating, she cooked at St. Ann’s serving the residence for 41 years.  She retired from St. Ann’s and took care of her mom for the last few years.

Marlene loved to cook but had a green thumb when it came to her flower beds and pots.  She loved her fur babies (her American Eskimo Casper and her cat Silver).

To all that knew her she was Marlene, but to her nephew (and niece-in-law) she was our Ann.  This special name came to be when Brad was little, he couldn’t say Auntie Marlene and Ann just stuck.  It was always her special name.

One of Marlene’s strengths was to bring people together without even knowing it.  This was seen in her final days through the circle of family and friends that gathered to make sure she wasn’t alone.

She is survived by her sister Brenda (Jake) Braaten; nephew Brad (Jennifer) Braaten.  She also had many special friends and family that were her companions and supported her during her life and her final days. She is predeceased by her parents Adam and Barbara, and brother Brian.

To everyone that was there for her during her final journey, the family is eternally grateful. At her request there will be no funeral service.  A private family internment will take place later in Lancer, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marlene’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice at Glengarda. Arrangements entrusted to Martens Warman Funeral Home.
