Patricia Anne Sheard

December 3, 1938 — April 12, 2023

Anne passed away quietly on 12th April at Parkridge Community Centre, Saskatoon after a long illness. She grew up in a farming family in the Vale of Evesham, England, the daughter of Cyril and Connie (née Greeenway) Hodnett with her brother John (predeceased). Her high school equivalent was awarded from Cheltenham Technical College before going on to complete her botany degree at Imperial College, University of London. Anne played field hockey for the College before taking on the challenge of becoming President of the Women’s Student Union, with around one hundred and fifty members in a sea of fifteen hundred men. She nevertheless found the time to make wedding dresses for her close friends. Anne met John Sheard at university and married in 1962 after graduation. She taught high school in Croydon prior to the birth of Gail, before moving to Derry, Northern Ireland where Peter was born. The family moved to Ottawa in 1967 to evade the impending ‘Troubles’, and on to Saskatoon in 1968. Anne was involved in starting a playschool at St. Martin’s Church. Her science degree found her technician positions in Innovation Place and the Veterinary College on campus. She had a love of gardening, arts and crafts, painting, hiking, camping and cross country skiing in northern Saskatchewan and the mountains. Her family is grateful for the care she received from the nurses, caregivers and other staff of Parkridge Community Centre during the six years she was a resident. There will be a private celebration of life with family and friends in the fall. Donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association, SK would be welcomed.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is both honoured and privileged to be entrusted with the arrangements of Mrs. Sheard.
