With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, Pete Friesen. He passed away peacefully on January 30th with his family at his side. He had suffered a major stroke on January 28th.
Peter was born to George and Katherina Friesen on November 23rd, 1938 at the family farm near Gruenthal, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Gruenthal completing grade 8.
Peter spent time in Burns Lake working for his brother John at the sawmills. He returned to Saskatoon and in July 1959 he married Mary Driedger at the First Mennonite Church. They welcomed a son, Jeffrey, and two daughters, Carol and Brenda.
He was a carpenter all his life and built many things including houses, churches, and apartment buildings. He was hard working and loved being involved in his families lives. He never lost focus of who his Lord and Saviour was. He was sure to remind us often of the power and strength of God.
“For God so loved the world that he gave His begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Peter was survived by his loving family: Son, Jeff (Jen) Friesen, and daughters, Carol (James) Friesen, and Brenda (Andrew) Grant. Ten grandchildren & Sixteen great grandchildren: Jordyn (Mason) Loy - Senan, Idyn, Sorin; Justin (Teandra) Friesen - Charlie, Benjamin, William, Madison; Jaelise (Jaiden) Crittenden - Rory, Coen, Brooks; Michael (Carly) Friesen - Isla, Olivia, Nathan, Matthew; Whitney (Ryan) Braun - Samson; Ayla (Andy) Lawson -Peighton; Faron (Michael) Kaine; Emma Grant; Drew (Simran) Grant; Grace-Anne Grant; and his three sisters; Anne Reddekopp, Peggy Weber and Helen Braun.
Peter was predeceased by: His parents, George and Katherina Friesen; The mother of his children, Mary (Driedger); His brothers and their wives: John (Nettie), Henry (Anne), George (4months old), George (Mary), Abe (Betty), and Neil (Jeanette); His sisters and their husbands: Tina (Abe) Doell, and Sarah (John) Driedger; His brother-in-laws: John Reddekopp, Carl Weber, and Gary Braun.
