It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rhonda Marie Patterson (nee Coles) announce her departure from this world to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 17th, 2023. She passed peacefully at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK surrounded by many loved ones who sang and prayed as she passed from our hands into God’s.
Rhonda was born in Kindersley, SK on November 25th, 1958. She grew up in Coleville, SK until her teen years which she spent in North Battleford, SK. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and happily accepted a spot in the degree nursing program at the University of Saskatchewan. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Stan Patterson. Rhonda and Stan were married in 1981 and settled in North Battleford, SK where they raised their three children. Rhonda spent her entire nursing career as a public health nurse in the Battlefords and surrounding area; and continued to do so even after moving to Warman with Stan in 2015. Rhonda’s faith in God and immense passion for nursing touched the lives of so many – even during her final days where she dreamt of a miraculous return to health to continue her work.
Rhonda bravely endured a long battle with cancer since 2014. Throughout her journey, her relationship with God only grew stronger and her trust in His plans was far greater than we could ever understand. Her faith was unwavering and inspirational, and she always credited her incredible strength to God.
Rhonda had a spark and joy that were unmatched. She used her love of storytelling to share her wisdom meaningfully and to establish positive connections with everyone. Her passion and dedication to community and volunteer groups, and commitment to learning, leadership and loving people, made her unforgettable.
Rhonda was predeceased by her sister Noreen Coles, brother-in-law Ted Burton, and step-father Thomas Cope. Family who will miss her and treasure her memory are her parents Odelia (Tillie) Cope and Roy Coles (Marge Coles); her sister Brenda Burton; her husband Stan Patterson; her children Lisa (Mark) Pollock, Michelle (Michael Plag) Patterson, David (Rozellia) Patterson, and Shalla (Allan) Hundeby; her grandchildren Alexis, Eli, Kenzie, Sydney, Heinrich, Isla, Eryx, Emry, and Jasper. Rhonda was also deeply loved by many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and cousins.
Her family would like to also acknowledge the many lifelong nursing friends; work colleagues; bible study grandmas; family friends; clients; and neighbors who Rhonda cherished and are greatly affected by her passing.
We would like to thank everyone who ever loved and cared for our mother, including Dr. Vicky Martin and the Cancer Center team; the staff at RUH 6200, 5000, and ICU; the palliative and home care teams; and Dr. Hesselson.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Saint Joseph Calasanctius Roman Catholic Church, 1942 98 Street, North Battleford, SK.
