Rosalia Powiada

August 3, 1929 — January 15, 2022

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rosalia Powiada, our beloved mother, baba, sister, auntie and friend on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the age of 92.

Mom was born on August 3, 1929, in Montreal, Quebec.  She was the eldest of three daughters. In 1949 the family moved to the area of Minitonas, Manitoba. She met dad in Toronto, and they were married on March 14, 1964.  They lived in many different cities in Canada but finally settled in Saskatoon in 1980.

Mom was always very independent.  She lived in her own apartment until she passed away.  She owned and operated “Rose’s Kitchen” for many years.  Mom loved to bake, cook, and sew, and was the master of many different crafts, especially cross-stitching.  She and dad would travel to craft shows on weekends and sell her unique handiworks.  Mom was always busy looking for new things to create.

She adored her grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them, especially the sleepovers and watching movies and eating popcorn together.  Mom enjoyed travelling to Mexico, Hawaii and Arizona with her sister and brother-in-law and friends.  When mom was 75, she parasailed in Mexico.  Mom looked forward to playing cards and getting together with friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Michael and daughter-in-law Wendy, her grandson Dr. Maxim Powiada (Dr. Molly) and granddaughter Madalyn Kaminsky and husband Jayden, her sister Zinovia Solomon, nephew Roman (Maureen) Solomon, Mykaila & Alexa; nephew Peter (Liz) Solomon, Conrad & Trent and her many special friends in Saskatoon, Ontario, and Quebec.

She was predeceased by her husband Barney on November 15, 1990, her parents Atanasy and Marja Pronchuk, her younger sister Helen and her brother-in-law Ross Solomon.

A funeral service will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Michael Smolinski on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Saskatoon. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.
