ROSELENE MARCELLA (GERMANN) SCHROH

It is with profound sadness that the family of Roselene Schroh (nee Germann) announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the age of 92 years.

Roselene was born on April 27, 1932 to Bernard and Helen (nee Knorr) Germann, the third youngest of 11 children. She grew up on the family farm 7 miles east of Luseland. She attended a rural elementary school and completed her high school education in Kerrobert and at the Leipzig Convent.

Roselene married Peter Schroh on October 30, 1951. They lived on the Schroh family farm where Lyle was born, before moving to Kerrobert where Adele, Janine and Dale were born. In 1956, they moved to Coleville where Terry, Greg and Glenda were born and where they would make their home for the next 40 years. As the kids grew up and left home, Roselene joined the workforce, working at the Kindersley Bakery, Bomersine’s Grocery Store and Rossville School before pursuing her education at the age of 49. She obtained her Secretarial Certificate and worked as a Secretary in local oil and gas companies for over 13 years. Roselene obtained her drivers licence in her mid 30’s, which gave her independence and would be important as Pete’s failing health would eventually make him unable to drive.

Roselene loved to garden. Her vegetable and flower gardens were always beautiful and plentiful. She enjoyed sewing and quilting over the years making special gifts for her children and grandchildren and when retired with more time, she expanded that skill to include other crafting projects. Having grown up with very little, she was very thrifty and remained that way throughout her life sharing that important quality with her family.

Pete and Roselene moved to Medicine Hat in the summer of 1996. It was a tough decision to leave Coleville and their close community of friends, but they would soon make many new friends when they moved into Park Meadows retirement condo. They kept busy with the variety of activities and entertainment. When the condo board needed casual office help, Roselene utilized her secretarial skills and filled that role for a couple of years. As Pete’s health continued to fail, Roselene became his full time caregiver. Despite his limitations, she designed and created a special back pack to hold a portable oxygen tank, allowing him the freedom to continue bowling well into his 80’s. That’s who she was - consistently supporting and giving of herself to others and especially advocating and caring for Pete for so many years making it possible for him to live in the comfort of their home until shortly before his passing. She shared her gift and love of baking with her grandchildren, letting them help her in the kitchen when they were little. She always made sure to have their favorite cinnamon buns on hand which she had lovingly made anytime they would visit.

Through her education and work experience, Roselene gained computer skills that would serve her well in later years by giving her the ability to stay connected with others especially while living in long term care. With her iPad, she was able to FaceTime with grandkids, communicate with family and friends through email and Facebook, livestream Mass and funerals of loved ones, and watch YouTube videos. She loved watching her favorite curling team on TV and most importantly, she always picked up the phone to stay in touch with long time friends and extended family, keeping them up to date on family news even up to a few days before her passing. Family was so important to her and she shared that message always. She was very proud to have been the driving force in the completion of the Germann family history and assisting with both the Knorr and Schroh family history honoring the family members that came before her and making sure that future family would benefit from this information. She continued to remind family to send her any family updates to ensure the history continued. She made everyone around her feel important and she loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids equally and unconditionally, and there was never a special occasion, achievement, or milestone that she didn’t take the time and effort to recognize and celebrate.

Roselene was a devout Catholic, living her faith daily in all that she did. She was very involved with Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Coleville for many years, volunteering in numerous capacities and was a life long CWL member. She continued volunteering in her parish in Medicine Hat and later in North Battleford. She was blessed to spend her remaining years in Catholic long term care facilities where she could continue to attend mass. This was especially important to her and her family as she was surrounded by the love and prayers of so many and in particular, the Nuns who reside at St. Angela Merici. Her faith was her foundation and prayer was the most important part of her every day. In the last year as her health struggles increased, it would take her much longer to complete her daily prayer ritual, but it was important to her that she continue to pray regardless of how she was feeling. Her love of God and her strong faith was an inspiration to many.

Roselene was predeceased by her parents Bernard and Helen, husband Peter (2009), son Lyle (2000), great-grandson Eric (2020), grandson-in-law Brad (2021) and step-grandson Jamie (2023). She was the only remaining sibling; predeceased by sisters Anne, Helen (Austin), Eva, Jean (Eugene) and brothers Beanus (Moreen), Adam (Marie), Tony (Helen), Pete (Tillie), Walter (Alice) and Barney as well as all of Pete’s siblings and their spouses.

She is left to mourn her passing by her children Adele (Jim), Janine, Dale (Loretta), Terry (Leanne), Greg (Linda) and Glenda, 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Grace Willis, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Villa Pascal in North Battleford and the staff and residents of St. Angela Merici Residence in Saskatoon for the love and care Roselene received over the years.
