We are sad to announce the passing of Sharon Louise Stevenson. Sharon was born on February 6th, 1951, at the Saskatoon City Hospital to parents Eldred (Johnny) and Jean Bowes. The addition of her younger sister Geraldine 5 years later completed their little family. Sharon graduated from Nutana High School and took a secretarial course at the Business College in Saskatoon where she later was employed at the United Grain Growers (UGG) office in Saskatoon. Sharon met the love of her life, Rod Stevenson, through some friends and they never looked back. Rod and Sharon got married at the Saskatoon Bethel United Church on August 26, 1972, a memorable day as it was one of the hottest days of that summer and was a good day for the A/C to not be functioning!
Rod was a fertilizer Salesman for Sherritt, Veridian, and later Agrium; a job that required a lot of miles on the road and so Sharon was a stay at home mom chasing after their three children: Jennifer, Grant, and Trevor. Over the years they had followed Rod’s job and made life-long friends on their moves from Saskatoon to Calgary to Edmonton and eventually returning back to Saskatoon to care for their aging parents and establish their forever home.
Once the kids were old enough to go to school Sharon filled her extra time with a position at Welcome Wagon, Girl Guides where she volunteered as a leader and District Commissioner and later became an important fixture at Hallmark in Saskatoon. Hallmark was a large part of Sharon’s life, as evident in her own personal Hallmark collections at home, especially Christmas Ornaments.
Rod and Sharon loved to travel together, including multiple trips to the coast of BC and Hawaii, an Alaskan cruise with friends, and later they spent many winters in Palm Springs, California where Sharon loved to enjoy the warm weather, golf with Rod, and of course shopping!
Sharon was a lot of things in her lifetime, but a couple of her favourite things to be was a mom, grandma, and sports fan! You’d often find her loudly cheering in the stands whether it was hockey, football, skating, or baseball, you could always count on Sharon to be there
After a short and courageous battle with her disease she passed away in the presence of her loving family at the age of 73 at the Royal University Hospital.
Sharon will never be forgotten by her loving husband, Rod; their children Jennifer (Michael) Reinhart, Grant, and Trevor (Carla) Stevenson; as well as grandchildren Christine, Callum, Calleigh, Madden, and Everett; sister Geri and her family.
Grandma will be remembered for her advice, Wordles and coffee in the morning, her banana bread, her many Hallmark ornament collections, and always being available for good conversation over a glass of wine.
As per her wishes, no memorial service will be held at this time as her family will be laying her to rest at a later date. Any donations in Sharon’s memory can be to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Sharon Stevenson.
