Shirley Ann Loeppky
February 8, 1953 – May 19, 2023
Shirley Ann Loeppky was born to Abe & Ann Fehr on February 8, 1953 in Saskatoon. She went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Friday May 19, 2023 at the age of seventy after a short battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Shirley lived in Saskatoon where she attended school for her first three years after which they moved to Mennon Corner. At the age of 9, she attended Daily Vacation Bible School at Emburly School in Gruenfeld where she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour. She then attended Hepburn school where she graduated from High School. Being the top of her class, she loved school, loved reading and enjoyed sports.
She had various jobs, her favourite being an operator at SaskTel where she stayed for 11 years. In 1978, she attended a wedding on Remembrance Day.This is where she met Martin and it truly was a day to remember. They dated for two years, were baptized in May 1980, and married on August 9, 1980.
Their son Jeffrey was born in 1982 and their daughter Jennifer in 1985.
The family enjoyed many camping adventures especially at Greenwater Lake. When the opportunity arose, Jennifer chose a new tent trailer given by the Children’s Wish Foundation. So many precious memories were made in those years.
In 2005 Jennifer passed away. God gave them great comfort and peace throughout the years.
In 2006 Martin and Shirley were happy to welcome Holly to join their family as Jeff’s bride.
As Shirley loved to read, she bought and read many Christian Living books over the years and also borrowed many mystery novels from the library. She loved playing games such as Scrabble, Boggle, Trivial Pursuit and card games.
She enjoyed watching the birds that frequented the feeders in the backyard. Date nights with Martin were often spent picking up fast food and parking by the river or parking on 8th street watching the “cool cars” go by.
In 2000, Shirley and Martin began attending Neuanlage Grace Mennonite Church and shortly thereafter transferred their membership to this church. This church truly felt like home. She said that it is a church of caring, giving and prayerful believers. Throughout the years, they regularly attended Bible Study and it was a wonderful time of fellowship and prayer and left them with many wonderful friends.
In August 2022 Shirley was diagnosed with a fast-spreading cancer. She had two surgeries and it was decided not to follow up with treatment as it was too advanced. Throughout her short battle with cancer, her faith kept her strong.
Shirley leaves to mourn, her loving husband of 42 years, Martin and her son and daughter in-law Jeff and Holly Loeppky. She was predeceased by her daughter Jennifer, her father Abe Fehr, her in-laws Jake and Margaret Loeppky and sister in-law Joan Loeppky. She is survived by her mother Ann Fehr, sisters Marilyn (David) Burridge, Caroline (Eldon) Ens, Janet (Ken) Siemens and brother Glenn (Sharon) Fehr.
Shirley also leaves behind Martin’s family; brother in-law Al Loeppky, sisters in-law Amanda (Lloyd) Greenstien, Trudy (Gerald) Barkman, Carol (Terry) Turgeon, and brother in-law James (Sheryle) Loeppky. She also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley and Martin were so thankful for the support and many visits and gifts of food given this past year from friends and family.
The memorial service will be held at the Neuanlage Grace Mennonite Church, 50 Pembroke Rd, Neuanlage, SK., on Friday May 26th at 3:00PM. For those unable to attend live streaming is available at https://youtube.com/live/7rXp2u19Otw?feature=share.
