September 2, 1923 -November 28, 2020

Signa “Siggie” Genevieve Johnson of Saskatoon, SK, passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on November 28, 2020 following a brief illness at the age of 97.  She is lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law Terry Manley, nieces Grace (Norm) Skrudland, Marie (Dennis) Johnston, Margaret England, Kelly (Kevin) Wist, Mary-Ann (James) Brown, Carol (Ken) Steinitz, nephews John (Jeanette) Boquist, Keith (Lorna) Boquist, Dwayne (Darlene) Boquist, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  Siggie was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Ronneberg, daughter Anne Howard, sisters Anna Morton, Mabel Boquist, Bergit Manley, cousin Gladys Mc Dougall and ex-husband Edwin Johnson.

Siggie was born on September 2, 1923 on the family farm near Norquay, Saskatchewan.  She spent her early years working within the local farming community until she became a clerk at the Rexall Drug Store in Norquay.  Siggie then moved to Regina where she enjoyed working as a beautician in the cosmetics department at Tamblyn’s Rexall Drug Store.  She returned to Norquay and married Edwin Johnson in 1961 and their daughter, Anne, was born in 1964.  In 1971 Siggie and Anne moved to Saskatoon and became members of St. Martin’s United Church.  Siggie enjoyed being part of the church community.  Siggie spent many years as a custodian of two apartment buildings in the Avalon Community.  She made many friends with the tenants and workers who assisted her with the maintenance of the buildings.  Everyone appreciated her efforts to keep the hallways, staircases and laundry rooms in spotless condition.  In 2013 Siggie moved to Luther Tower and then joined Jan’s Care Home in 2016 where she received wonderful care and tenderness from Jan, her staff and the residents.  Siggie will be remembered for her kindness, honesty, genuine caring nature and her ability to prepare a special luncheon on short notice.  Her home was always a welcome place for gathering to share stories and strengthen bonds with family and friends.  This remarkable woman was a loving sister, sister-in-law, wife, mother, auntie and friend.  Siggie’s quiet manner, smile, unique comments and laughter were gifts she shared with others.  We will truly miss our special visits with Auntie Siggie.

A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  We hope Siggie’s family and friends will find their own way to celebrate her life.  The family would like to thank the staff at RUH (6200 Unit) for the caring and compassion provided for Siggie during her final two weeks of life.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martin’s United Church or a charity of your choice in Siggie’s memory.  Cremation arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services & Crematory.
