Velma was born in St Benedict to her parents Elizabeth and Steve where she grew up on a farm near the town. She met the love of her life Carl Schreiner and they were married on July 1st, 1957. Shortly after marriage Carl and Velma moved to Saskatoon and started their family Brian in 1958, Brenda in 1959, Sharon in 1960 and Sheldon in 1963. In 1963 they would purchase their farm North of Saskatoon which they proudly called home and raised their family for 44 years. During those years raising the kids, Velma was a proud mother and homemaker on the farm. Velma took pride in tending to her very large garden on the farm and also enjoyed her time baking in the kitchen. When she wasn't busy helping with the farm chores she also helped with bookkeeping for their family trucking business. After the kids were older Velma also enjoyed working as a cook for a number of years at the Saskatoon airport.

In 2006 Carl & Velma moved to Cudworth where they would reside in their retirement years. Carl and Vel enjoyed travelling and taking many trips to the U.S and B.C. A place that was very special to Velma and Carl was their cabin at Delaronde Lake where they made many fond memories with family & friends on the pontoon boat. In the town of Cudworth Velma really enjoyed spending time going for coffee and socializing with her friends. Many special memories were also made with her sister-in-law Betty Meszaros, spending time together and taking trips.

After Carl's passing in 2013 Velma stayed in Cudworth until 2019 and then moved to Diamond House Assisted Living in Warman. Velma enjoyed her many visits from family and friends at the Diamond House and enjoyed her walking and social activities there. At the end of 2023 Velma moved to the Mennonite Nursing home in Warman due to her declining health.

Velma passed away in the early morning hours of February 6th surrounded by her loving family. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the staff at the Mennonite nursing home for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life for Velma Schreiner will be May 4th @11am at St Michael’ s Church in Cudworth, 503 Main Street, followed by a graveside service with lunch to  follow at the Cudworth Hall.
