Wayne Leonard Chittick

June 20, 1947 — March 25, 2023

They say that in life we need to make sure that the dash counts. Although Wayne’s dash was far too short, he lived a full life that filled the space in between. We are grateful that he is now at peace and free from pain.

Wayne and his twin brother Warren were the oldest of 7, born in Nipawin, Sask. They were raised on a farm with humble beginnings. Wayne developed a strong work ethic at a young age, as much was expected of him. He took his schooling in a one-room schoolhouse.

Wayne was married to Debbie Stephan at age 21. The family moved to Saskatoon to raise their three children Deanna, Bradley & Tracy. Wayne worked hard to become a Journeyman welder and later became known as a Driveline balancing expert.

Wayne married Mary-Ellen Pare’ on Sept 8th, 2001, and became a Stepdad to Jonathan and Josh. In 2004, his family encouraged him to start his own business again, and after a lengthy Family Thanksgiving Dinner Discussion, the wheels were put into motion. WAYNE’S DRIVELINE opened on April 5th, 2004.

Wayne was extremely proud of the business he built, the success of which came down to his hard work ethic, determination, and perfectionistic attention to detail. If Wayne did a job, it was done right. He would agonize over things and was his own worst critic. He would always say, “If you are going to do a job, you HAVE to do it right!” Wayne embraced these same attitudes when it came to lending a hand. It was a great enjoyment to load up his tools and help out his friends, neighbours and family. He spent countless hours working on projects for others.

Wayne was a good provider who worked hard but also played hard. He loved to travel and went on many trips over the years. He travelled to BC, Florida, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Cuba, and Arizona and went on skiing and numerous camping trips. Wayne also loved to golf where he would spend more time finding balls in the bush, than hitting balls. He would go looking for his ball and come out with his pockets full! He played many rounds of golf at Martins Lake over the last 28 years where he has had a seasonal campsite. He also loved gardening and was a fantastic soup chef.

Wayne formed many cherished friendships over the years through Church, work, the lake and his travels. He was known for being soft-spoken, gentle, very kind and overly generous.

Wayne was very proud of his children. He was a loving, caring Papa and nothing brought him more joy than his Grandchildren. His face would light up when he saw them, and he was extremely proud of each of them.

Since Wayne’s early teens, he has had a very strong Faith and Trust in God. This faith carried him through many trials and tribulations. He had two bouts of Cancer, the first diagnosed in 2016. He faced many challenges throughout his treatments but never complained. He was more concerned with how the nurses were doing than about himself, as he didn’t want to be a burden or make work for anyone. Despite his battles, he always took life one day at a time.

Wayne was surrounded by his loving family up to and until his passing. He peacefully and gently slipped away at the Palliative Care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital, where he received extraordinary care.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd & Hazel Chittick, his twin brother Warren, Grandson Jordon and Stepson Jonathan. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Mary-Ellen, his children Deanna (Jeff) Ratzlaff, Bradley Chittick, Tracy (Murray) Purcell, Josh (Alyssa) Pare’ and leaves behind nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Wayne’s Celebration of Life will be held on June 25, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Circle Drive Alliance Church – Chapel, 3035 Preston Ave. South, Saskatoon, SK. Lunch to follow. In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation or to Elim Curch Missions Team.

Martens Warman Funeral Home is both honoured and privileged to be entrusted with the arrangements of Mr. Chittick.
