It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wesley Enns on January 13, 2025. Wes is survived by his beloved wife Donna; his children Karen (Kevin) and Leighton (Roxanne); his grandchildren Jared Melchert (Camilla Martin), Ian Epp, Anna Epp (Mackenzie Hildebrand), and Darian Enns (Kelsea Wilk); and his great-granddaughter Meryl Melchert. He is also survived by his brothers Walter Enns (Mary) and John Enns (Edna), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Agnes Enns, and siblings Lawrence (Francis), Pete, Harry, Corney (Gertie), and Willie (Marlene).
Wes was born in Mullingar, SK, on May 12, 1941. The youngest of eight boys, he grew up on a farm before moving to the town of Martensville. On July 13, 1963, he married Donna McMillan, and together they built a home in Martensville. Wes found his calling in the car sales industry, where he became affectionately known as “Wes-Country,” a nickname he proudly embraced. He loved every aspect of car sales, from the initial handshake to handing over the keys, and he took great pride in helping people find the vehicles they needed. Wes’s legacy as a trusted salesman is reflected in the many customers who returned to him over the years. He often shared fond memories of his work, enjoying the relationships he built along the way.
Wes was known by many as friendly, caring, sincere, authentic, and loving. If you were his friend or family, you knew this well. He valued spending time with loved ones, whether it was enjoying “going for coffee” (although he only drank decaffeinated tea), golfing with Donna, cheering on Leighton at hockey games, visiting with Roxann-ee, visiting Karen and Kevin’s garden, attending grandkids’ sporting and drama events, and playing games together. He also loved playing his guitar, especially the one his son-in-law Kevin made for him with an inlay reading “Wes-Country,” and he enjoyed karaoke and auctioneering for fun. Wes cherished family time at Martins Lake, reading autobiographies, traveling, and creating lasting memories with those he loved.
Wes lived life fully and with love. He and Donna taught their children to do the same. He often said, “We have a lot of love in our family,” a sentiment that echoed throughout his life. His love for God was also evident, particularly in his gift of prayer, which brought him great peace. His meal prayers were legendary—so much so that we often had to remind him, “Dad, the food is getting cold.” Wes was an active member of Martensville Baptist Church, where he contributed by serving as an usher during Sunday worship.
In recent years, as his care needs increased, Wes moved to Spruce Manor in Dalmeny, where he resided for the last year and a half. Though it was difficult for Wes and Donna after 61 years of marriage, they made it work, with Donna visiting almost every day. The family is deeply grateful to the staff and residents at Spruce Manor, who made Wes feel loved and cared for, referring to them as his community. This support meant so much to his family.
Wes spent his final two weeks at St. Paul’s Hospital, where he peacefully passed away in the palliative care unit, surrounded by Donna, Leighton, and Karen. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the palliative care physician and nurse who provided exceptional care and support during this difficult time. Wes will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
