Our Story

With deep roots in both Warman and Martensville, John and Shirley Martens saw a need for more personalized and affordable funeral and memorial services in the area. When they opened their doors in Warman in 1991, they were still raising their three children, Kevin, Dion, and Monica. The Martens have a strong desire to lift the burden of planning memorial services for grieving families in their community and beyond.

“Funerals tended to feel quite formal in those days,” said John Martens. “We wanted to give families a chance to expand beyond that, to tell their loved one’s story.”

From encouraging families to bring mementos emphasizing the departed’s personality, to comforting grieving families, the Martens’ devotion to their community and province has grown into a network of lifelong friendships. Their services are in demand through the Saskatoon area and well beyond, with both Warman and Martensville locations a drive of less than ten minutes from the city.

Kevin Martens’ career began in his father’s funeral home while he was still in high school: washing cars, cleaning the funeral home, driving the hearse, and assisting in most areas of the business. Following high school, he began his full-time career in funeral service at Yewchin’s Funeral Chapel in St. Paul, Alberta, completing his apprenticeship in Edmonton before returning to Saskatchewan with his wife Charmaine to work at Martens’ Funeral Home in Warman. Noting the profound growth and expansion in the region, Kevin opened his own location, Cherished Memories in Martensville. In 2019, Kevin Martens chose to carry on the tradition of honouring families, and sharing their loved ones’ stories at his family’s locations in both Warman and Martensville, by purchasing Martens’ Funeral Home in Warman from his parents. Carrying on the Martens family tradition, Jaxon Martens has followed his father’s footsteps, and during high school and post-secondary school breaks, he has also been an addition to the business by washing cars, cleaning, driving the hearse, providing computer and technical support, and as a funeral service attendant.

Alongside his wife Charmaine and their four sons, Kevin Martens is proud to carry on his family’s legacy and tradition of integrity, kindness, and compassion, while delivering the best service at affordable prices. Over the years, Kevin has maneuvered and evolved with the changes in the industry, as well as his family businesses, without losing sight of his top priority: helping families heal. He constantly strives for excellence, finding new and better ways to serve families through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

“We are real people, genuine in our care and concern for each and every family that we are privileged to serve.” – Kevin Martens, owner/operator of Martens Warman Funeral Home and Cherished Memories Crematory in Martensville, SK.
